Law Enforcement - Corrections Partnerships
The U.S. Department of Justice was interested in some emerging efforts in which law enforcement and corrections worked together in one way or another. They decided to have a series of regional workshops during which teams from various jurisdictions would meet to discuss their experiences and find common themes and issues, both to improve the efforts in their home jurisdictions and to help advance the field nationally. Examples of projects ranged from sharing information on gangs in prison to partnering probation officers with police patrol in high crime areas.
The workshops were sponsored in 1998 and 1999 by the Boston Police Department and several USDOJ affiliates - the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, the National Institute of Justice, the Corrections Program Office, the National Institute of Corrections, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Thomas J.Quinn, principal consultant of Quinn Consultants, was contracted by the Institute of Law and Justice to help plan the series and to serve as the overall conference moderator. We effectively planned and executed an agenda that balanced team breakouts with full group presentations to share ideas and accomplish our goals.
